Magic tricks are one of the best methods for teaching
children. They not only understand concepts better but learning truly becomes a
fun experience for them. Also, they tend to remember concepts much better if
they are taught in such a manner as they like to perform the tricks themselves
and thus keep on repeating the trick and hence the concept.
As a teacher, you could probably start with a normal trick
which has no teaching concept behind it and then go on to tricks which teach children
about things.
Here, two tricks have been explained. One is a mind reading
trick which can act as a good starter and then the simplest way to multiply any
number with 5 has been illustrated as a teaching concept trick.

Mind Reader
First, write down DENMARK, KANGAROO and ORANGE on a piece of
paper and fold it. Then give this sheet of paper to your volunteer from the
audience.
Now, ask him to choose a number from 1 to 9. then ask them
to multiply the number by 9. let us say that he chooses 5. then 5x9=45. now ask
him to add the digits oif the answer together i.e. 4+5=9. now ask him to minus
5 from the answer i.e. 9-5=4.
Then, ask them to tell you the alphabet corresponding to the
answer, i.e. A=1, B=2 and so on. In our example, the answer is D. Now, ask them
to choose a country starting with the alphabet.
Next, ask them to think of an animal that begins with the
last letter in their country's name. Finally, ask them to name a fruit that
begins with the last letter of the animal's name. it is most likely that the
answers will match DENMARK, KANGAROO and ORANGE !
How to multiply with 5
Ask your class to think of any number in the world and you
can tell them the answer multiplied with 5 in a split second. This is how you
do it :
Let us assume that the chosen number is 8600. Just divide it
by 2 which is 4300.00. now, move the decimal point to the right once, i.e.
43000. That's it !

Today, with the incoming of the Internet, there are lots of

Trick Number 1 : The Self-Tying Handkerchief
A knot instantly ties itself at the end of a handkerchief!
REQUIREMENTS: One cloth handkerchief with a knot tied in one
corner.Tell your friends that you can tie a knot in a handkerchief using only
one hand! Pull the handkerchief out of your pocket, keeping the knot hidden in
your hand. Pick up the opposite corner of the handkerchief with the other hand,
and grasp the handkerchief, releasing the end without the knot. Pick up the
hanging end with the other hand as before and repeat, again releasing the end without
the knot. On the third try, let go of the knotted end, instead of the expected
corner. The movement of the hand conceals the switch, and makes this a very
baffling effect.
Trick Number 2 : Houdini Rubber Band Escape
A miniature escape that demonstrates how solid can pass
through solid!
REQUIREMENTS: One medium sized rubber band.
This is sometimes also called the Hopping Rubber Band. You
loop a rubber band over your first two fingers, and then it inexplicably jumps
to the second two fingers. Begin by placing a rubber band over your forefinger
and middle finger. Bring the rubber band all the way down to the base of the
fingers. Hold your hand so its back is facing the audience. Pull the rubber
band with your other hand to show that it is solid, and then at a point when
the rubber band is still pulled a little bit out towards you, curl your fingers
down.From your audience's view, it looks like the rubber band is still around
only two of your fingers. Pause for just an instant, and then straighten your
fingers out. The band will instantly jump over to your ring finger and pinky !
To make the rubber band jump back to your first two fingers, follow the same
moves again. If you twist a second rubber band over the fingers above the first
band, so that the fingers appear tied together, and then follow the same moves
for the trick as above, the first rubber band will still be able to jump,
seeming to penetrate right through the second band!
